Young Leander has received his First Holy Communion and it's celebration time with his family and friends at his home in Chinchinim.
.
A thanksgiving prayer at the home altar. The uncle of the young lad exhorts him to be good. Prayers of the faithful are said and a rousing rendition of San Francis Xavieraaaa... rounds off the prayer session.
.
The altar, with St.Anthony at the apex, is a miniature model of the 'trono' style retable seen in many Goan churches. The niches flanking the altar mimic the 'iconostasis' arrangement also popular in many churches.
.
The cake for the occasion is chalice-host shaped with gold-coloured icing. The elaborate centrepiece for the cake was crafted by the artistic uncle.
.
Leander's cousins take the mike to sing 'Bandra festak gellom hanv tea nimnea aitarak...'
.
A couple of songs by the kids and the seniors got into the mood. 'Encosta tua cabecinha' and 'Haha novro mhaka zai' sang the ladies. A tiatrist friend also belted out an Alfred Rose favourite.
.
One and a half dozen cousins and friends...the perfect company for a lad's party!
.
.
It's buffet time, with sannas, pulao, chana masala, chow-chow, chicken, fruit custard, bebinca and other mouth watering delicacies.
